Short answer: TPE is softer and far cheaper; silicone is firmer, more detailed and much easier to keep clean. For most first-time buyers TPE is the right call. Silicone is worth the premium if facial realism, hygiene or longevity are what you care about. And there is a third option most guides skip — a silicone head on a TPE body — which is often the best value of all.
Material matters more than height, more than options, and more than almost anything else you will decide. Here is the comparison without the marketing language.

| TPE | Silicone | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Softer, more skin-like, squishier | Firmer, denser, holds shape |
| Detail | Good | Excellent — finer sculpting, real skin texture possible |
| Durability | Good, 3–5 years with proper care | Excellent, often longer |
| Porosity | Porous — needs thorough drying | Non-porous — easier to sanitise |
| Cleaning | More work, must dry completely | Can be rinsed fully, lower risk |
| Stain resistance | Stains from dark fabrics | Much more resistant |
| Heat retention | Warms and holds body heat well | Less heat retention (heating option helps) |
| Price | From $269 full body | From about $1,349 full body |
At the same height the gap is large, and it is worth knowing why before you decide it is a rip-off:
Compare it directly in our catalogue: a 158 cm TPE body with a silicone head is $839. The same height in full silicone is $1,499. That $660 difference is entirely body material.
This is the configuration we recommend most often, and the one buyers rarely regret:
In our range this combo starts at $749 for 148 cm and runs to $909 for 168 cm — comfortably inside most budgets, with the visual quality of a doll costing twice as much.
TPE is porous. Water and bacteria can sit in the surface if it is not dried completely, so the routine is: wash, rinse, dry thoroughly (a drying stick helps a lot), then powder. Skip the drying step repeatedly and you will see it in the material.
Silicone is non-porous. It can be rinsed fully, sanitised more confidently, and is far more forgiving if your cleaning routine is imperfect. If the idea of a strict drying routine sounds like something you will abandon by month three, silicone is insurance worth paying for.
TPE stains. Dark denim, cheap dyed fabrics and anything with loose dye can leave marks that are difficult or impossible to remove. Practical rules: wash new clothing before it goes on the doll, avoid dark colours for long-term contact, and do not leave the doll in one outfit for weeks.
Silicone resists staining far better, which is one more reason it suits buyers who like dressing their doll.
The two materials do not share the same option list. TPE bodies can take electric head nodding, full-body water heating, hip wiggle, breathing and a wide range of oral functions. Silicone bodies offer soft abdomen, soft thighs, metal finger bones, inner-mouth heating and finer ROS options. Whatever you pick, the product page shows only the options that actually apply to that material.
